PURPOSE:To easily sharpen a cutting edge and smoothly finish the sharpened cutting edge on a spherical base having an elastic surface, by coating a roll with a liquid mixed with abrasive grains and bringing a cutting face into contact with the roll and moving the cutting face obliquely. CONSTITUTION:A liquid mixed with abrasive grain is coated on the peripheral surface of a roll 1, which freely rotates. A cutting face is obliquely reciprocated in contact with the peripheral surface of the roll 1 so that a cutting edge is sharpened. The liquid mixed with abrasive grains is then coated on a speherical base 3 which is provided under bearings 2 for the roll 1 and has an elastic material 3'. The cutting edge sharpened by the roll 1 is slightly blunted by the base 3 so that burr made by the sharpening is removed. |
