PURPOSE:To prepare a soil conditioner which prevents the lowering of fertilizing efficiency of soil, by treating vulcanized rubber powder with sulfuric acid, and then neuralizing with an alkali, thereby converting the rubber to sulfonic acid salt, and imparting ion exchanging characteristics to the rubber. CONSTITUTION:Vulcanized rubber powder, e.g. crushed waste tire, is sulfonated by treating with sulfuric acid sludge, etc. The sulfonated rubber is neutralized with an alkali, e.g. quick lime, to obtain a sulfonic acid salt which is useful as the soil conditioner. EFFECT:To prepare soil having porous structure, and high air permeation. Also improves the water retention and heat retention of the soil. |
