PURPOSE:To measure the thickness of the refractory material, by forming an opening in an iron skin, and measuring the going and returning time of elastic waves which are generated by hitting the rear end of a metal rod that is contacted with the internal fire resisting material through the opening. CONSTITUTION:The small opening 14 is provided in the iron skin 12. A part of a stamp material 16, which is filled between the fire brick 10 and the iron skin, is exposed. The tip of the metal rod 18 is pushed to the surface of the stamp material through the small hole 14. The rear end of the metal rod 18 is hit by a hammer 20 and the like so as to generate the elastic waves in the inside of the fire brick 10. The elastic waves are detected by detecting the vibration of the iron skin 12 by an acceleration pickup 22. The detected signal is stored in a digital memory 26 through a signal amplifier 24. A stationary waveform is displayed on an oscilloscope 28. By obtaining the going and returning time from wave groups (a) and (b) of the stationary waveforms, the thickness of the refractory brick can be simply measured. |
