The food recognition and automatic cooking method detects only an average light amount of reflection light according to the food without a complicated program. The food recognition and automatic cooking method includes the steps of: getting an average light amount; discriminating if the average light amount is more than the maximum light amount in non-loading; recognizing kinds of corresponding foods when the average light amount is less than the maximum light amount and judging if the present light amount reaches a determined minimum light amount in heating the food; and setting a given time, heating the food and then finishing the cooking, when the average light amount reaches the minimum light amount.
