PURPOSE: To obtain a transdermal matrix system capable of obtaining larger dosage by using smaller amount of an estrogen and/or a progestogen. CONSTITUTION: This adhesive transdermal matrix system is composed of (A) 20-40 pts.wt. of a poly(styrene-isoprene-styrene)triblock copolymer whose styrene content is preferably 17-47 wt.%, (B) 35-55 pts.wt. of a tackifying resin, preferably a hydrocarbon resin, (C) 5-25 pts.wt. of a plasticizer selected from the group consisting of oleyl alcohol, peglicol 5-oleate, propylene glycol laurate and a polypropoxyl ether of cetyl alcohol, (D) 5-15 pts.wt. of a skin infiltration stimulator selected from the group consisting of crootamiton and an N- substituted 2-pyrrolidone of the formula (R is a 1-15C alkyl, cyclohexyl or 2- hydroxyethyl), (E) 0.01-1 pt.wt. of a stabilizing agent and (F) 0.1-5 pts.wt. of an estrogen (e.g. 17-β-estradiol) and/or a progestogen (e.g. norethisterone acetate).
