PURPOSE: To prepare a highly viscous cosmetic composition containing sclerotium gum, a hydrophobically-modified acrylate or methacrylate copolymer and a carrier permissible as a cosmetic. CONSTITUTION: This cosmetic composition contains 0.005-1 wt.% of sclerotium gum as a polymerizable glucose, 0.005-1 wt.% of a hydrophobicallymodified acrylate or methacrylate copolymer and 1-99.9 wt.% of water, a solvent, silicone, esters, fatty acids, a humectant and/or a carrier permissible as a cosmetic such as a thickener. Furthermore, 0.001-1 wt.% of water-soluble vitamins functioning as an electrolyte are contained in the resultant composition to be a thickened system having a low pH, especially pH 6.8-1. The composition is prepared to a shape of a lotion, a cream, a roll-on agent, a mousse, an aerosol spray and a pad coating agent, etc.
