摘要 <p>PURPOSE: To enable measuring of distance with less malfunctioning by a configuration employing a simple processing method with a small amount of data by determining distance distribution from an image signal obtained by a pair of sensors arranged correspondingly to distance measuring points set in a lattice form. CONSTITUTION: The distance measuring unit 10 obtains an image signal containing a vehicle 20 ahead of its own vehicle corresponding to a plurality of distance measuring points set in a lattice form. In a sensor, image sensors 12L and 12R are arranged in the directions of base lines of a pair of lens 11L and 11R and outputs thereof are amplified 13L and 13R and undergoes an A/D conversion 14L and 14R to be stored into memories 15L and 15R. A microcomputer 30 determines distance distribution of distance measuring points from data of the distance measuring points stored and then, correlation of distance measuring points is determined from the distance distribution. Then, the correlation is used to calculate a judging value of a detection area comprising two dimensional area defined by three distance measuring points. When the judging value is smaller than a set value, the existence of the vehicle 20 as obstacle is judged and furthermore, distance to the vehicle is determined.</p>
