DESKTOP BINDER AND TAPE WITH ALIGNING MEANS

A simplified desktop book binder method and apparatus (10) wherein the sheets (34) to be bound are accurately aligned by the binder tape (26) itself. In particular, the conventional binder tape (26) is formed into an L-shape. Alignment is achieved since the inside corner of the L (36) and the edge (38) of the bundle of sheets of paper (34) are in contact. The tape (26) is dropped into a correspondingly shaped slot (12) in the binder apparatus (10) and the paper bundle (34) is placed on top of the tape (26), the edge (38) of the bundle (34) being automatically aligned against the corner (36) of the tape (26). The free end of the long leg is wrapped tightly around the paper bundle (34). In an alternative arrangement, a form (70) is substituted for the bundle of paper (34), the form (70) being covered with polytetrafluoroethylene tape (60). Since the glue (28) will not adhere to the polytetrafluoroethylene tape (60), the form (70) may be removed after binding leaving the covers (72, 74) and the binding tape (26) with glue (28) on the inside spine, thus allowing the user to make folders as desired.
