FLUID FILTER HAVING A FILTER ENVELOPE FORMED OF PANELS HAVING DECREASING PERMEABILITIES

A filter (10) for removing undesired materials from a fluid, such as used cooking oil, includes a filter envelope (11) including first and second panels (12, 14). The first panel (12) has a permeability greater than that of the second panel (14). The first panel (12) of the filter envelope (11) may be formed of a filter pad, and the second panel (14) may be formed of a filter paper and may enclose a metal spacer grid (18). When the filter (10) is connected to a pump for drawing the oil through the filter (10), the flow of the oil is directed selectively through the filter pad (12), whereby undesired materials are removed from the oil. The filter (10) provides for efficient flow of the oil to be filtered while removing undesired materials therefrom.
