The appliance has a transmitter and receiver employing a radar or microwave radiation, which can penetrate optically opaque container walls. The receiver signals are subjected to frequency analysis to determine the reflection factor of the inspected workpiece. Errors in the assembly or shape of the workpiece affect the resultant frequency spectrum.
