A vertically sliding side window pane for motor vehicles, in particular a window pane for a door, is made from laminated glass composed of two individual glass sheets (2, 3), each having a thickness from 1.5 to 3 mm, which have undergone a thermal quench, and of a thermoplastic interlayer (4). The two individual glass sheets (2, 3) have, in the marginal zone (5), tensile stresses in the core which, in the case of a 1.5 mm thickness of glass sheet amount to a value lying between 27 and 57 MN/m<2> and, in the case of a 3 mm thickness of glass sheet amount to a value lying between 20 and 47 MN/m<2>. In the central field (6), inside the marginal zone (5), the individual glass sheets (2, 3) have tensile stresses in the core which, for a 1.5 mm thickness of glass sheet, amount to a value lying between 25 and 42 MN/m<2> and, for a 3 mm thickness of glass sheet, amount to a value lying between 17.5 and 33 MN/m<2>.

|
