PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrifying device and an electrifying method, by which the surface of a photoreceptor is uniformly electrified and noisy erectification sound caused by the contact between a rectifying roller and the photoreceptor is reduced to a non-disagreeable degree. SOLUTION: The electrifying device, which is provided with a power source, the electrifying roller and a cylindrical electrophotographic photoreceptor, and electrifies the photoreceptor surface by bringing the electrifying roller applied with a pulsating voltage from the power source into contact with the photoreceptor, is provided with a sound wave generator for generating the sound wave having the same frequency and level as the electrifying sound and the opposite phase waveform at the position of distance L defined by the following expression from the tangential line between the photoreceptor and the electrifying roller: L<=Va/(24×F) (1). Here, Va is sound velocity (approximately 341 m/sec in the air at a room temperature, and F is the frequency of the pulsating voltage applied to the electrifying roller. |
