The invention relates to a method for determining a binary information related to the speed of a mobile terminal in a radio communication network. According to the present invention, the method comprising the steps of: estimating information related to the raw bit error rate on the radio link to the mobile terminal; determining an indicator on the variation between successive estimations of said information related to the raw bit error rate; comparing the indicator on the variation between successive estimations of said information related to the raw bit error rate with a predefined threshold; determining the binary information related to the speed of the mobile terminal depending on the comparison between the indicator on the variation between successive estimations of said information related to the raw bit error rate and the predefined threshold. <IMAGE>
