Method for reinforcing a hollow profile (1) of a vehicle component comprises feeding a traction element (5) of prescribed buckling resistance through the hole (3) in a peripheral wall (2) of the hollow profile until the inserted end of the element touches the inner surface of the wall of the hollow profile lying opposite the hole, welding the inserted end onto the inner surface of the peripheral wall of the hollow profile using a stud welding device (4), stretching the element between the inner surfaces of the wall forming a reinforcing strut and welding to the edge of the hole on the outer surface of the wall and cutting off lengths of the traction element on the welding site on the wall.
