PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal with high usability and free from time delay in streaming reproduction of content data even when the portable terminal is a small portable terminal with restricted data capacity, and to provide a control method of the portable terminal. SOLUTION: The portable terminal is characterized in that it includes an operation input means 170 for receiving operation input from the user and a control means 200 for controlling each means so as to stop reproduction of the content data by a reproduction means 140 when stop of reproduction of the content data is instructed by the operation input means 170, to generate a reproduction control command for instructing stop of reproduction of the content data, to transmit the generated reproduction control command to a server and to store the content data to be stored into a buffer memory 120 by the time a receiving means 110 receives a response signal from the server to the reproduction control command transmitted to the server.
