<p>A vehicle trailing arm suspension system wherein an axle is pivotally secured with trailing arms to a hanger bracket secured to the vehicle frame. Each of the trailing arms comprise a pivot arm component having a first end pivotally secured to the hanger bracket and a second end including a first axle engagement portion abutting the axle. The trailing arm further includes a tail component having a second axle engagement portion abutting the axle. The first and second axle engagement portions each include terminal ends which are located adjacent one another and are welded together such that the first and second axle engagement portions completely circumscribe the axle exterior surface. One of the axle engagement portions includes overlapping portions extending over the terminal ends of the other axle engagement portion. The trailing arm is thereby formed and secured to the axle by welding the pivot arm component and the tail component to one another in a position circumscribing the axle and, further, by welding the pivot arm component and/or the tail component to the axle. An air spring seat is affixed to the tail component. An air spring is located between the spring seat and the vehicle frame. A shock absorber bracket is affixed to the tail component. A shock absorber is pivotally secured between the shock absorber bracket and the vehicle frame.</p> |
