A protection switching method in a closed network and a device therefor are provided to use a signal received first among at least two switching request signals during simplex or duplex link failure, thereby quickly performing protection switching. At least two switching request signals are received from an adjacent network device of a failed network. Switching is performed based on a signal received first between two received switching request signals. If the malfunction is simplex failure, the received switching request signal includes at least one of an RDI(Remote Defect Indication) and an AIS(Alarm Indication Signal). If the malfunction is duplex failure, the received switching request signal is the AIS.
