A permanent magnet comprises ferromagnetic whiskers of constant diameter disposed in a matrix. The whiskers may be iron cobalt, nickel, or alloys thereof and may have diameters of less than 1000 Š. They may be produced by evaporation using the method disclosed in Specification 978,790. The matrix may be lead, or a plastic material, e.g. polyvinylidene chloride, and a magnetic field may be applied during the removal of solvent from the matrix. The particles may have a very thin oxide coating. |
