1,054,525. Thin film thermistors. VICTORY ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Nov. 30, 1965 [Feb. 3, 1965], No. 50822/65. Heading H1K. An electrical resistance element is made by floating a finely divided metal oxide material on a liquid to form a dispersion, compressing the dispersion horizontally to form a continuous film one or more particles thick, picking up the film on a substrate and firing the substrate and the film to sinter the metal oxide material. In an embodiment a thermistor is prepared by grinding a mixture of Mn, Ni and Co oxides to a size 1À1 to 1À4 Á and mixed with a solution of amyl acetate in toluene as a dispersing agent. The metal oxides are floated on water either by adding as a suspension or as a powder. The substrate may be BeO, AgO, Al 2 O 3 ,BN, quartz or Ni while the sintering temperature is 1300‹ C. Electrode contacts of Ag, Au, Pt or alloys thereof, may be added as a coating, dispersion or a compound which thermically decomposes at sintering temperature to the metal or by cathode sputtering. |
