A band or webbing is produced by compacting one or more bundles of filaments arranged in a band in a first die, subjecting the band to a reduced atmospheric pressure and whilst still compacted, extrusion coating the band with a thermoplastic organic sheath in a second die. The filaments may be of polyethylene terephthalate, isotactic polypropylene, nylon 6 or 66, glass, a blend of polypropylene and polyethylene, or a blend of polypropylene and an elastomeric olefine copolymer. The sheath may comprise low or high density polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyurethane, polyester, e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, polyamide, e.g. polyhexamethylene adipamide, or stereoregular polypropylene. |
