1316953 Organic isocyanates IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 June 1970 [24 June 1969 24 April 1970] 31893/69 and 19853/70 Headings C2C and C2P Organic isocyanates are prepared by reacting an organic halide which contains at least one aliphatically (or cycloaliphatically) bound halogen atom with an alkali or alkaline earth metal or ammonium or methyl or ethyl-substituted ammonium cyanate, a small amount of acid, preferably 0À1-10% by weight of the organic halide, being present during the isolation of the product. The acid, preferably a mineral or organic sulphonic acid, may be mixed with the reactants at the beginning of the reaction. A catalyst such as iodine, iodine monochloride or a mixture thereof may be present. A solvent, preferably a mixture of a solvent of high polarity with one of low polarity may be present. The reaction temperature is preferably 50‹ to 160‹ C. |
