A wire straightener comprises an assembly including a support housing H carrying two pairs of oppositely disposed guide rolls 5 and 7, all of said guide rolls being arranged for rotation in the same plane and each pair being provided with co-operating grooves to receive the wire, and a straightening roll means disposed in a yoke 17 between said pairs of rolls comprising at least one wire-engaging roll 15 adjustable transversely to the common axis of the wire grooves and the assembly being mounted on a hollow drive shaft N of a motor M. The wire is fed from a reel S through the straightener W.S. as it is rotated by the motor M and a wire feeder WF delivers the wire to a welding torch T. In a modification (Figs. 5 and 6) the guide rolls are mounted in bearing assemblies 23 and 25 within the housing H. A straightening roll assembly 33 comprising three rolls 40 is eccentrically mounted between the guide rolls the eccentricity being adjusted by rotating the roller housing 29 by means of a set screw 31 movable along an arcuate slot 37 in the housing H. This arrangement eliminates the tendency of the wire to twist upon passing through the straightener.</p> |
