Boot release ski braking device - uses U-shaped spring wire and bowed foot plate to fold brake plates over ski upper

This ski brake consists of two U shaped wires one end of which is bent round to pass through a pivot point in a base plate fused to the upper surface of the ski. The base of the U wire passes under the bowed foot plate (2b) where it is fitted to the side of the foot plate. The wire continues through the brake plate. When the boot is in position on the ski the weight flattens out the footplate stowing the brake plates on the top of the ski. When the boot is removed from the ski the footplate returns to its bowed shape allowing the brake plates to be swung by the torsion springing in the U wire into the braking position.
