E perimenting bench comprises a bech top of ceramic or plastics material, and spaced from the parallel to the longitudinal edge of the bench top remote from the user an installations channel provided with fittings for gas, air, water and/or electricity. Pref. the upper surface of the installations channel e tends obliquely upwardly and outwardly relative to the bench surface, and is in the form of a detachable lid. The channel may be made of profiled metal, and closed at the side plates which define the sides of the bench. One of the side plates may form a housing which conceals ground connections for the installations and at the top of which is a water fitting and a sink.
