摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion compensation optical fiber to be connected to a transmission single-mode optical fiber having zero dispersion within the wavelength band of 1.3μm for efficiently compensating for the dispersion of optical signals within the wavelength band of 1.55μm. SOLUTION: Refractive index grading is formed to have a W-type profile, thereby providing a refractive index structure having a negatively large dispersion value equal to or less than -80. A ratio Ra of the diameter (a) of a core 1 to the diameter (b) of a side core 2 (i.e., Ra=(a)/(b) is set at a value between 0.33 and 0.37. In addition, a ratio DPS of a DPS (SMF) value obtainable by dividing the dispersion value of a transmission single-mode optical fiber in the wavelength band of 1.55μm by a dispersion slope to a DPS (DCF) value obtainable by dividing the dispersion value of a dispersion compensation optical fiber within the same wavelength band by the dispersion slope [i.e., DPS (SMF)/ DPS (DCF)] is set at a value within the range of 0.95 to 1.05.
