PROCESS FOR PREPARING MYCOPHENOLIC ACID GLUCOSIDE

Mycophenolic acid glucoside(I) is prepd. by contacting mycophenolic acid with glucose in an aq. medium in the presence of Streptomyces candidus or S. aureofaciens. Thus, an inoculum of S. aureofaciens was prepd. and transferred to a vegetative medium and the mixt. incubated at 30oC for 48 hr. A 2nd fermn. stage was carried out on a similar medium for an addnl. 48 hr with shaking. At this time, 50 mg mycophenolic acid was added to the culture brtoh along with 1000 mg of an aq. soln. of gucose and fermn. continued for 72 hr to give 111 mg of I.
