摘要 PURPOSE:To improve remarkably the workability in case of connecting the first and the second polarization plane maintaining optical fibers so that each intrinsic polarization axis is matched, by making a linearly polarized light incident on the intrinsic polarization axis of one end of the first polarization plane maintaining optical fibers, and connecting it so that the scattering directions of Rayleigh scattered light from the first and the second polarization plane maintaining optical fibers coincide with each other. CONSTITUTION:Detectors 10a, 10b are placed in advance in a case 9 so that the position relation to the Z axis bearing of polarization plane maintaining optical fibers 5a, 5b becomes equal, respectively, and first of all, the end faces of the optical fiber 5a and 5b are brought to a fine adjustment in the X-Z directions, and connected temporarily so that a light is coupled to some extent. Subsequently, the optical fiber 5a is rotated so that the photodetecting quantity of Rayleich scattered light from the optical fiber 5a received by the detector 10a when a linearly polarized wave 8 has been made incident on the optical fiber 5a becomes maximum. Thereafter, the optical fiber 5b is rotated so that the photodetecting quantity of the Rayleich scattered light from the optical fiber 5b received by the detector 10b becomes maximum, and in this state, the optical fiber 5a and 5b are connected exactly.
