<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a filter having high adsorbing capacity and high collection efficiency and consisting of a fire-retardant activated carbon fiber sheet and a sheet by using an org. synthetic fiber having a fiber diameter of 1mum or less in an activated carbon fiber as a binder. CONSTITUTION:A filter contains an activated carbon fiber and an org. synthetic fiber having a fiber diameter of 1mum or less and any activated carbon fiber dispersed in water may be used and the mean fiber length thereof is about 1.05-15 mm. As the org. synthetic fiber having a fiber diameter of 1mum or less, one composed of a material known generically as a rigid chain polymer is useful and the rigid chain polymer means a polymer with a chain length of about 50Angstrom or more keeping linearity in a solution and, for example, poly(p- phenyleneterephthalamide) is used. The amount of the org. synthetic fiber having a fiber diameter of 1mum or less is about 5-50% by wt. of a sheet and this fiber is obtained by the microfibrillation of a fibrous or pulpy substance using a homogenizer as one example. By this method, an activated carbon fiber sheet having high strength, high adsorbability and high collection efficiency is obtained.</p> |
