摘要 A polymerisable artificial eye lens material (I) for cataract operations consists of a liq. monomer (II) which is injected directly into the empty capsular sac of the eye and polymerised with the aid of a UV-absorbing photoinitiator (III). Pref. (III) is camphorquinone. Also claimed is: (a) the use of (I) for direct injection into the eye and photopolymerisation of the monomer, pref. with light of wavelength 400-500 nm, and pref. also using a volume-substn. material (IV) which is not photopolymerisable and which is injected into the anterior chamber of the eye, and (b) a device for injecting liquids into the lens region of the eye, comprising two liq. containers, one contg. material (I) and the other contg. material (IV), and each connected to a cannula for introducing the materials into the different parts of the eye as above. ADVANTAGE - Replacement of the lens with a plastic substitute which exactly matches the shape and dimensions of the natural lens. The monomer is fully tolerable to the tissue of the capsular sac and has an inhibiting effect on cell growth (for prevention of sec. cataract).
