The invention relates to a device making it possible automatically to remove branches and/or bark from a tree before it is felled. This device consists of a chassis (1) formed by two angle pieces (2a) and (2b) in which the trunk of the tree bears, pressed against the two angle pieces (2a) and (2b) by a drivewheel (6) via an articulated arm (4) and a spring (5). The chassis (1) supports a heat engine (8)/tool (10) alternator (9) assembly. The device rises and falls in a spiral around the trunk by means of an electric geared motor (7). When rising, the device shapes the tree by means of the tool (10) driven by the heat engine (8). The device according to the invention is particularly intended for shaping resinous (coniferous) trees. <IMAGE>
