The moulded plastic suction head casing (1) has a swivelling hose socket (3). The metal sole-plate (9), with fluff-trap strips (19,20), is screwed (10) to the casing. Lateral air channels (15,16) communicate with the hose through central apertures (17,18). Full-width brush-bars (21,22) are retractable into gaps (23) at the front and rear edges of the sole-plate by a pedal control, together with two side skids (25,26). The skid under-surfaces lie slightly below the sole-plate when the brushes are lowered, raising the plate off the cleaned surface. Part or all of the retractable brushes may be replaced by rubber wiping blades. ADVANTAGE - Sole-plate damage avoided while cleaning hard surfaces.
