The splitter consists of two jaws (8,11) - one fixed to a frame (1) on a supporting vehicle and the other able to rotate about a pivot (10) between two positions - one in which it is in contact with the fixed jaw and the other in which it is open to allow a log to be positioned between the jaws. The moving jaw is opened and closed by a hydraulic cylinder (17). Each of the jaws has a sharpened edge which lies more or less parallel to the axis of rotation of the pivot (10), and they can be made, for example, by cutting from steel plate. The two jaws can be L-shaped, and their tips can be offset relative to one another. The fixed jaw is connected rigidly to one end of an upright (5) on a triangular supporting frame, while the moving jaw is pivoted to the other end. USE/ADVANTAGE - Suitable for use in agriculture and forestry, being efficient and reliable in operation.
