<p>A device for simultaneously sealing a plurality of containers 10 with sealing caps 12 comprises a cap chute 13 which supplies the sealing caps 12 and has a lock-out 20 controllable by a sensor 48 for releasing the sealing caps 12 one at a time onto a cap strip feeder 22, the feeder having a rectilinearly reciprocable path of movement and a plurality of cap receivers 24. The containers 10 are advanced into position beneath a plurality of sealing heads 31 by a conveyor, eg a worm conveyor 45, the sensor 48 registering the absence of individual containers. Once the containers are positioned beneath the heads 31 the conveyor is turned off and the cap strip feeder is linearly moved into position beneath the heads, picking up caps on its receivers 24 as it moves. Magnets (32, Figure 2) may be used to attract the caps from the receivers 24 into recesses 34 when the heads are lowered. The cap strip feeder is withdrawn to its starting position below the chute before the caps are applied to the containers. The caps may be screw on, press on or crown closures, clamping holders 50 being provided to hold the containers against the worm conveyor during cap application. A fumigation frame 37 enables fumigation of the top area of the container with water vapour or gas. <IMAGE></p> |
