PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a valcanizable rubber composition for a seal which is excellent in high temperature tear strength and gives a vulcanized molded article hardly ever left behind in a mold when taken out from the mold and leaves no burr in the mold thereby saving trouble for cleaning the mold. SOLUTION: This rubber composition comprises a carboxyl group-containing acrylic rubber and a vulcanizing agent, the carboxylic group-containing acrylic rubber being obtained by copolymerizing (A) methyl acrylate and/or (B) ethyl acrylate, (C) butyl acrylate and (D) a butenedionic acid monoalkyl ester, the wt. ratio of the alkyl acrylate units in the copolymer being such that the ratio of the sum of the unit (A) and the unit (B) to the unit (C) is 9:1 to 6:4 and that the ratio of the unit (A) to the unit (B) is 0:10 to 3:7 and the content of the butenedionic acid monoalkyl ester unit (D) being 0.1-15 wt.%.
