An air conditioning system has separate heating (2) and cooling (3) sections over which is ducted the airflow. Both sections are filled with phase change materials with that in the cooling sections have a lower melting point than that in the heating section. Both sections are threaded by heat exchange coils (11, 12) through which a liquid is pumped in a closed system. This ensures that the liquid takes heat from the cooling section and transfers it to the heating section. The airflow is ducted through either the heating or cooling section depending on the requirement.
