<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of the need for cooling this kind of metal halide lamp up to a fixed temperature, when it is once turned off and turned on again, for example, a metal halide lamp of 30 mm ϕ, which is placed inside a general outer glass tube of 55 mm ϕ, and nitrogen gas is sealed in between the outer tube and the metal halide lamp, where waiting period of almost six and a half minutes is required, before it can be turned on again. <P>SOLUTION: An apparatus comprises an outer glass tube 2, in which a straight-tube long arc type metal halide lamp 1 with an air duct 2a on its outside is mounted to, and a cooling blower fan 3 installed inside one of openings of the outer glass tube. The cooling blower fan is driven, regardless of whether the lamp is in turned-on or turned-off, or driven state during the lamp off period, and stopped during the lamp on period. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
