The system has an ignition coil unit for supplying an ignition plug with ignition energy. A control device (2) controls an electronic switching unit for switching primary current of the coil unit depending on an engine operating parameter of an internal combustion engine. The parameter is represented such that it is derived from the temperature of the ignition coil unit. A filter device temporarily delays the operating parameter.
