Provided is a plasma display device having a novel phosphor layer which emits green light and improved initial emission luminance and improved emission luminance maintaining rate. The phosphor layer includes a mixture of particles of Zn₂SiO₄:Mn and particles of (Y, Gd)BO₃:Tb. The surface of the particles of Zn₂SiO₄:Mn is covered with magnesium oxide. The ratio of Mg to Si measured by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) apparatus on the particle surface is 0.7 or more but not more than 6.0.
