An automated point of purchase advertising device includes at least one motion sensor or sensing feature, a power management function to manage power usage depending on the sensor on the automated device determining the presence of a person in a vicinity of the device, and a readily programmable and re- programmable operating system. The device also operates in different power modes based at least in part on the determination of the presence of a person by the sensor.
