PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable enhancement of recording density by suppressing influence of heat decay in heat assistant magnetic recording. SOLUTION: The influence of heat decay is suppressed by setting a half value width of optical power distribution of a proximity light generation element 33 heating a recording area of the magnetic recording medium 21 to 100 nm or less and making cooldown time of a magnetic recording medium 21 to 2 ns or less. Although a magnetization reversal unfinished area occurs in a magnetic domain rear end part caused by high-speed cooling, the magnetization reversal unfinished area generated in a magnetic domain rear end part recorded previously is overwritten by an overshoot magnetic field by generating overshoot at a rising section of a recording magnetic field of a magnetic recording head 35.
