<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus capable of acquiring image data from the shallow part to the deep part of a subject by a few transmission/reception circuits. <P>SOLUTION: For a two-dimensional vibrator array of the ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus, a plurality of vibrator columns including a first vibrator and a plurality of second vibrators arranged so as to hold the first vibrator therebetween are arrayed in a row direction. A first transmission/reception part transmits first drive signals to the first vibrator and the second vibrators included in one vibrator column, and echo signals are received in each of the first vibrator and the second vibrators. A second transmission/reception part transmits second drive signals to the second vibrators arrayed in one vibrator column and the echo signals are received in the second vibrators. A first switch switches the connection of the first vibrator and the first transmission/reception part. A second switch switches the connection of the second vibrators and the first transmission/reception part. A third switch switches the connection of the second vibrators and the second transmission/reception part.
