PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a magnetostrictive material excellent in mechanical properties as well as in magnetostrictive characteristics at a low cost. SOLUTION: The magnetostrictive material is produced by preparing a molten alloy haying a (rare earth metal)-(transition metal)-type magnetostrictive alloy composition, subjecting this molten alloy to grain refining by a grain refining means, such as an atomizing process, a rotary disk process, and a rotating electrode process, and then spraying and depositing the resultant refined grains in a semimolten state on a base material in a magnetic field. Moreover, all the stages are carried out in an inert gas atmosphere and the base material consists of a turning or rotating roll. The grains in a semimolten state are deposited into circular-arched shape or cylindrical shape. After the deposited magnetostrictive material is solidified, heat treatment for improving orientational property is applied. Further, the magnetic field intensity in the magnetic field is regulated to 5-20 kOe. |
