The invention is directed at an apparatus for separating a three phase fluid including an inlet for directing the fluid into the apparatus, a fir st outlet for removing gas, a second outlet for removing oil and a third outlet for removing water. The improvement to the apparatus comprises a tank for containing the fluid which communicates with the first, second and third outlets. Further, the tank has a first end, a second end and a longitudinal axis extending therebetween and wherein the tank is inclined such that the longitudinal axis is at an angle to a horizontal plane of between greater than 0 degrees and less than 90 degrees and such that the second end is at a greater elevation to the horizontal plane than the first end. Preferably, an angle of about 20 degrees is formed between the longitudinal axis and the horizontal plane.
