Loose material is unloaded from a ship 14 by a bucket elevator 3 which drops the material through a hopper on to a belt conveyer 10 from which it is fed to a further belt conveyer 11 movable in both vertical and horizontal planes. The elevator 3 is movable along a beam 2, which is raised and lowered within a framework 1, and has stays 12 which rest on the deck of the ship so that the unloading apparatus and the ship move together during the unloading operation. The elevator 3 is pivoted into a horizontal position about the longitudinal axis of the beam 2 to allow ships to move in and out. The framework 1 may be mobile. |
