The connector consists of two or more sub-assemblies each including a base (20) with wire terminations (32) and recesses (34) for switchable contacts (30), and a strain-relief element (4) with connecting pegs (36) for stacking and holes (38) corresponding to those (24) in the base for attachment e.g. to a wall panel. Communication wires are connected to an end user at the workstation via the contact aperture devices (84) into which a multicontact user interface probe is inserted. The contacts (30) are of cut-and-grip type. A catch (42) at the top of each base enters a slot (40) in the top of the corresponding strain relief element.
