Alkenes polymerisation catalyst consists of (A) a titanium trichloride preparation produced by powdering a titanium trichloride component, prepared by reducing titanium tetrachloride with metallic aluminium, in the presence of an auxiliary component selected from (1) ethers esters, alcohols, phenols, carboxylic acids, acid halides, and ketones, (2) amines, aromatic nitriles, isocyanates and azo compounds, (3) phosphines and phosphates, (4) thio-ethers and carbon disulphide, (5) silanes, siloxanes, cyclic polysiloxones, and (6) aromatic, aliphatic, alicyclic, and halogenated aliphatic, aromatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons, until the titanium trichloride cannot be established by its x-ray pattern as being of the alpha- or gamma-crystal type, and extracting the resulting titanium trichloride preparation with a solvent.
