A cord for reinforcing elastomeric articles comprises a core of vulcanised elastomeric material with one two or three yarns wrapped helically therearound in open spaced coil arrangement in a single layer, as expressed by the formula the yarn in the relaxed condition, E is the extension ratio of the cord to a point of abrupt modulus transition and is in the range 1.05 to 2.50, r r is the radius of the elastomeric core which does not exceed 0.05 inch, r y is the radius of the yarn which does not exceed 0.050 inch, and where r f =0 or r y or 2/3#3r y for cords having 1, 2 or 3 yarns respectively. E may be 1.5-1.7, r r and r y may be 0.010- 0.012 inch, To may be 1.54-12.05 turns/inch. The cords may have an elongation of 5-150%. The yarn may be made of rayon. The cords can be formed into a sheet of elastomeric material in a spaced relationship under tension and subsequently relaxed. |
