A mechanism for cleaning a burr trough for a carding machine consists of a number of cleaning blades 2 spaced along the trough 1 and connected to a common reciprocating drive 4, 5. Each blade operates along only part of the trough and when moving in one direction (to the right in the Figures) is in an operative position whereas when it moves in the other direction it is engaged by rail 11 and held in an inoperative position. The rails 11 are of wear-resistant, synthetic elastomer with end portions 12 which flex. When moving .to the right the rail extends through an opening 13 in the blade and the end portion flexes upwardly as the blade passes beyond it. In the return direction the blade is engaged by end portion 12 and pivots about 3 to engage the rail 11 and be held in an inoperative position. |
