1,063,618. Continuous casting-machines; rolling. MOOS'SCHEN EISENWERKE A.G. DER VON. June 17, 1964 [June 25, 1963], No. 25152/64. Headings B3F and B3M. In a continuous casting process the casting is hot formed during solidification by enlarging the circumference of the strand. A slab from a curved reciprocating mould 21 is hot formed in a series of grooved roller passes 27, 27a, 27b to a number of billets 55, Fig. 5, connected by webs 56 which are cut by means 51 after passing through straightening means 45. The grooved rollers may be hollow for the passage of coolant. Other examples using straight or curved moulds, reciprocating or stationary, are described. A dummy bar for starting the casting comprises a rubber bar 92 having the crosssection of the product shown in Fig. 5, with steel cores 95 in the centres of the sections connected to a coupling piece 96, and a head 93 with bolts 99. The laminated chill plates 97 have a temperature after the commencement of casting which allows them to be deformed by, and pass between, the grooved rolls. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 967,281. |
