<p>1322765 Segmented discs for disc brakes; friction clutches B F GOODRICH CO 3 Aug 1970 [4 Aug 1969] 37399/70 Headings F2C and F2E A segmented friction member for a brake or clutch comprises heat absorbing segments 11 spacedly arranged in an annulus and having respective slots 12 at their inner (or outer) periphery for transmitting torque from a torque tube 15; and on either side of the annulus are attached segmental facing members 17 carrying friction linings 18, each facing member 17 being in overlapping engagement with two segments 11. The facing members 17 are of a wear-resistant material such as steel and have flanges 19 which overlap ears 13 of the segments 11, which ears 13 form the slots 12. The flanges 19 are formed with tongs 24 which co-operate with load bearing faces 25 of slots 12 and the ears 13 and flanges 19 are formed with holes 22, 21 respectively to receive rivets 23. The segments 11 are also formed with holes 26 into which are inserted cylindrical plugs 27 attached to the facing members 17 which plugs 27 are drilled to receive pins 28. In the modification of Fig. 2 each facing member 29 has its outer periphery 31 bent to contain and protect the segments 11.</p> |
